Whole Home DVR locks up but continues to record...for a while

Hi,

We have the Whole home setup with a Cisco 8642HDC Master box and one 4642HDC sub box.

Several times now, the Master box refuses to turn on.  The Power and MoCA indicators on the front of the box are on, but no signal goes to the TV.  Pressing the Power button on either the remote or the box itself seems to do nothing.  The Power indicator on the box stays on the entire time.

'And yet, it still records.  On Monday night, the box wouldn't turn on and yet it still recorded The Voice.  We could see the REC indicator on the front of the box, but no signal went to the tv.  We were able to watch the show on the sub box.  The show appeared in our recordings and we watched it through the DVR function as it was recording.

Yet, it was also supposed to record Hawaii 5-0, which it didn't due to "There was a power failure to the box".  It then didn't record anything else until I unplugged, then reconnected the Master box.  The sub box has had no issues during this time.

I can temporarily fix this problem by unplugging the master box, then plugging it back in.  But it will happen again, sometimes as soon as a day.  I can find no pattern as to why -- the last time, no one used the TV in between the time it was working and when it subsequently locked up.  It's happened 3 times now.

Any help is appreciated.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem with my 8642HDC, and I get lock-ups almost daily.  I am getting the same symptoms (power and MoCA lights on, but no signal to TV, and no response from power buttons on the box or remote).  Likewise, my only solution is to unplug the box and re-boot, but this is a hassle when I'm having to do this almost every night.  Additionally, the slave devices on my whole home DVR system (Cisco 4642HDC) also lock-up on a regular basis and require the same hard re-start to get a signal back.

Anyone at COX, is this a hardware issue?  A software issue?  I have had the service for almost 3 months and haven't gone 3 days without one of my boxes locking up on me.

Had this system for about 2 weeks now and running into the same issues. Technician came out yesterday and replaced all cables and reset all boxes. It happened first thing this morning.I am starting to think i should have stayed with my Tivo box. I never had this type of issue with that service.has anyone gotten any resolution for this problem?

If disconnecting and reconnecting the power only temporarily solve the problem there may be a signal or equipment problem that needs to be  addressed.  It might be time to arrange for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

Thanks for the reply Chris. As stated in my post, I went through troubleshooting on the phone and a tech came out to investigate. He replaced all cables and reset all boxes before leaving. I ran into the very same issue the next morning. I took the equipment back yesterday and exchanged for for a cable card so I could go back to my Tivo box. Maybe I will try again when all the bugs are worked out.

I have the same boxes and I have had nothing but issues with it. Tiling, channels off the air, lock ups, freezes, blackouts, etc. I've also noticed that if there is the slightest change in the weather from a shower to a good, hard rain the boxes get even worse. I have had a tech come out, and of course the issues did not appear. He said things look good outside, barely checked the stuff inside and left. I've unplugged/plugged in the boxes, I've talked to support on phone and nothing. I have yet another tech coming out tmw, 10-23-12. I can only hope he/she can locate a quickly, painless resolution for me.

If the issues you're experiencing get worse with rain it sounds like water may be getting into the lines somewhere.  Having a technician come out is the best way to correct this although finding the issue can get complicated if the symptom isn't occurring at the time.

Now, the wind is blowing and the tiling and other miscellaneous issues have started once again. This is getting very tiresome.

I just got this system about 2 weeks ago and I am regretting this, I know the COX customer service by memory now because I dial it daily. I am having the exact problems and it seems to shift from tv to tv mysteriously.

Did your system ever start working correctly, because I am ready to go back to the regular service.
