webmail issues
I cannot access my webmail and I get the error : 500 Servlet Exception in both Firefox and Google chrome. I have made sure my java is up to date on my computer. I have also completely cleared my cache and cookies. When I could get in, I couldn't respond to emails because of a java error. When I tried to fix this issue I was told by at least two connections that there was no fix for the issue currently and I would have to use the "fancy" webmail. I just want to know what the fix is for both of these issues

Are you using classic or enhanced webmail? If java is giving you a issue, might want to try enchanced, and see if that works.
Also, look for any oddly named folders, like ones that begin with ! or other symbols. I have seen that cause problems sometimes. Or if you have more then 20 folders or so.

The issue is that the enhanced is really hard to use and thus I want to be able to use classic. I want to be able to check my mail in my browser without having to pipe into another email program. I am not sure why this is such a big issue.

Basically, all webmail (not client like Outlook) works by having piece of software between your computer and the email server. 500 errors usually happen because of some script error on the page. Common causes are mailbox is tool full, too many folders, etc. Thats why I suggested to check those first.
It could also be something with your Java applet too. Try using this to check.
