FYI, if you see a modem on the shelf at a store that says MOTOROLA on it, it's NOT a Motorola modem.

Zoom Telephonics secured an exclusive, multi-year trademark licensing agreement with Motorola Mobility., and slapped the name "MOTOROLA" on their (Zoom Modems) and other pieces of equipment. ARRIS purchased the hardware and software, and that's why Arris is selling SURFBOARD (SB) Modems.

In 2015 and later extended, the agreement allowed Zoom to brand and sell consumer networking gear (such as cable modems, routers, and MoCA adapters) under the recognized Motorola name. Please note, NAME ONLY, Arris has all the intellectual property.

What does this really mean? Zoom, a modem I would NEVER use, (I am a network and computer engineer with over 40 years experience), has put the name MOTOROLA on their equipment, because people buy based on a name.

Here is an excerpt from a Zoom Telephonics article "We're excited about the opportunities from this expansion of our licensing agreement with Motorola Mobility to include the worldwide rights to a number of high volume consumer Wi-Fi home-networking product categories," said Frank Manning, Zoom's President and CEO. "Many of Zoom's cable modems include Wi-Fi, so this is a natural extension of our product line. Consumer Wi-Fi home-networking products are strong sellers in the retail channel, where Zoom has proven expertise. We believe that Zoom's established channel relationships and experience, combined with the iconic Motorola brand, should provide significant opportunity for growth. Our goal is to ship an AC1900 router and at least one Wi-Fi range extender by the end of this year, as well as two more cable gateway models, and to significantly expand our product line in 2017 and beyond."
