Using DVR/VCR Combo with the Mini Box
We recently bought a DVR/VCR combo, mainly to transfer old personal videos to DVDs, but also to copy TV shows we are missing. Today when setting up, my son discovered since the equipment does not have a coaxial cable, it cannot go through the mini box. Is there something we can purchase (besides a different cable box) to help with this problem?

Nothing needs to go through the mini box, the mini box has to go through the DVD/VCR. Coaxial from wall > Mini box > cable in VCR/DVD > cable out TV. The problem is this changes how you have to use the VCR. Instead of setting the VCR to the channel you want to record, you have to set the Mini box to the channel, and set the VCR to record channel 3/4, depending on the switch on the back of the mini box. However, this keeps you from watching one thing and recording another. There is no known way around this.
Also, if your VCR/DVD combo has analog encryption, and your mini box hasn't been updated yet, you may see a scrambled picture. If you do, reply here and maybe a moderator can try to push a update to your mini box.

If you set up your equipment based on the diagram posted by Tecknowhelp, you should be fine. All mini boxes have updated and should not run into any encryption issues when recording from the mini box to the VCR.
