Back when I had Comcast, I was able to stream with Xsplit at 2500 kbps without dropping frames. I tried streaming for the first time since switching to Cox and I was dropping frames all over, even after setting my bitrate as low as 800 kbps. This is unacceptable. Does anyone else have this problem or know a way to fix it?

Ooh, a gamer. What game?
Also what internet plan do you have and what are the conditions? Have a router? What are you testing from, PC or Hauppauge?

I play many different games. Mostly speedrun races of Super Meat Boy.
Anyway, I have the preferred package. When I run a speedtest, I get about 20Mbps down, but generally only about 1-2Mbps up with frequent drops below 1. Modem is a Motorola SB5101. My router is a Buffalo WZR-300HP with DD-WRT firmware and I'm streaming from PC. I've tried with both wired and wireless connections. The speed also varies wildly depending on the time of day.

"but generally only about 1-2Mbps up with frequent drops below 1." Do you mean your signal level drops below 1? What are your signal levels? Also what are do you live in? Like what state?

I'm looking at my upload speeds using speedtest.net. That's where I get the 1-2Mbps. My wireless signal is pretty steady at 55%. I'm currently in northwestern CT.

Wireless signal? Your streaming wirelessly? That is not preferable.
Is it the same wireless router as you had with Comcast? Also, what kind of modem do you have?

Oh right. I was looking at my router signal levels, not the modem. Derp. As I said above, I'm using a wired connection on a Motorola SB5101 modem and a Buffalo WZR-300HP router. My setup is exactly the same as the one I used with Comcast. The signal levels can be seen here: http://gyazo.com/533ea74aad3c9aea593596d1d6a5414b

Signal levels look good, but to you happen to see anywhere it mentions the "Symbol Rate" on the upstream channel level? I wonder if maybe there is noise on that upstream frequency which the D2 modem is having a more difficult time with. Preferred should get up to 5Mbps upload, but something might be bottle necking it at 2.5Mbps. Give 500Kbps loss at the router and I can see why you might be having an issue. Getting a D3 modem might be a bandaid fix short term, but before spending the money, I suggest ruling some other things out first
I would suggest bypassing the Buffalo router and connecting direct to the Motorola modem. There could be some configuration change in the router that might have to be changed between Comcast and Cox. Or perhaps the QoS setting? What version dd-WRT you running? I have a friend that raves about those Buffalo. I personally like Asus hardware but I certainly approve of the 3rd party firmware.

I don't see anything about "Symbol rate."
I looked at the logs for the modem and I'm seeing a lot of T3 time-outs. Speeds have been pretty good today so far, except for once around noon when it dropped to 1.1 Mbps. Nothing changes at all when I eliminate the router from the setup. The version of DD-WRT I'm running is

What is
Is that you rebooting the modem? Cox rebooting it? 2-3 T-3 Timeouts a day might cause the connection to lag for a second or two when they occur, but I don't think that would reduce overall throughput.

It may have been Cox rebooting it. The 16th was the first day I got the connection working.

I would suggest bypassing the router just to rule it out. If it's still slow direct to the modem with good signal then Cox may need to send a technician out to check their side for ingress issue. Or maybe a Moderator here can check remotely if you give them some account information. Until then a new D3 modem would be a good work around I bet, until they can hunt down the cause. Also, in the long run it will give you greater value out of the prefered plan.JMHO

I was looking at getting a D3 modem since they're coming down in price, but it wasn't something I wanted to have to do immediately. My upstream has been fairly steady today/tonight, so I'm wondering if maybe there was just an interruption somewhere causing me issues. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it keeps happening. Then I'll only have to worry about hitting the data cap.

I still would suggest bypassing the router and checking speed. dd-WRT is great, but it gives you alot of power to change settings which might cause issue ISP to ISP. And if all it is is a router setting you could save yourself the headache.

I said it before, but I kind of buried it in the middle of some other stuff. Nothing changes at all when I eliminate the router from the setup. Also, I appreciate the help.

Apologies must have missed that. Ok so good signal levels, bypassed network. Well its either noise or congestion or other. :-) If its congestion, only way to fix that is for Cox to expand or for you to get a D3 modem. Its a very rare problem though. If its a noise issue, it can be hard to track down and nothing us customers could fix. If its something else like a firmware issue or a provisioning issue, they will likely correct themselves. The moderators here can sometimes help with that too.
I think 99$ for a SB6141 is a good investment and you can pick one up usually at any Walmart/Costco/Fries/Bestbuy. If you have Cox store near by you can also go there and shop around. Just for your information, here is a list of Cox compatible modems.
