Transferring non primary email from one cox account to another
I would like to transfer a secondary email account from one Cox account to another.
I really just need the email address, as I have backups of all my emails and contacts.
I've was told by a cox rep via live chat, that all Cox can do is transfer ALL email accounts from one cox internet service account, to another, AS LONG AS the new account doesn't have a primary email account created.
I don't understand how this is the only option available from Cox. Who creates an internet account and doesn't setup at least the Primary email account; regardless, why am I ONLY able to transfer ALL email accounts and not be able to select?
It doesn't make sense to market a service for families and then not provide the ability for those families to transfer email addresses out to other Cox accounts? I can't transfer all the email accounts out of my mother's Cox account while she's still actively using her email account; she would be livid! It shouldn't work this way.
My family has happily used Cox Internet service since it was first provided in Phoenix back in the mid to late 90's. My parents created an email address for me on their account. I've used that email address most of my adult life, well after I moved out of my parents house 11 years ago.
I feel the all or nothing email account transfer is an unacceptable solution. I should be able to transfer a secondary email account from one cox account to another with no hassle. If it's not possible to seamlessly transfer the email account and it's contents, I should at least be able to export/archive/save the contents of my email account, delete it, and then add that email address as a secondary account to the other Cox Internet account. Then deal with importing data back into the email account if I so desire.
I don't understand why what I'm asking for isn't possible when you can freely move around email addresses in email systems like Microsoft Exchange; I can't imagine the Cox email system doesn't allow the same movement. It's a Cox hosted email address being transferred from one Cox Internet Service account to ANOTHER Cox Internet Service account. All you're changing, is the Internet service account that email address is associated with.
Please help me find another solution than what I was given by the Cox Live Chat support rep. This has to be possible, it doesn't seem like I'm asking for much.
Thank you.

I don't know much about the rules behind transferring one email address, but I know its technically possible. Actually I think its required the new account have a primary username, because there can be complications trying to set a secondary user as a primary for a new account. Maybe thats where they got mixed up? The problem comes in confirming your an authorized user on both accounts, and you have a PIN (if phone service on account) or last four of SSN.
Also, FYI, you can also attempt to transfer the email yourself. Just delete the username under Internet tools on one account and create it on the other account. You will lose everything in the inbox, but since you have that backed up anyway, that should be fine.

Transferring email account is something that we are able to do. The rep was correct in telling you that transferring the email address(es) would require the destination account to not have any primary logins or it will not work.
The other way to have the secondary email address moved from one Cox account to the other is to delete the address from one account and then have it added back to the new account. The issue with that is, if you are a Webmail only user, you will lose all of your email, contacts, etc. When doing the transfer all of that information is still available.
If you use an email program then this would not be an issue for you. The email would be on your computer and not our server (Webmail) so you would not lose anything. If you have an address that you would like moved we can do that for you. We will need to have you verify the name, address, PIN or last four of the SSN for both accounts. Please also provide the username(s) you would like to have moved. Thanks!
