Cox must have a wealth of bad CableCARDS. I have a HDHomeRun Prime setup with both Media Portal and MythTV and neither can tune-in encrypted channels. ClearQAM channels come in fine. I have gone thru 2 cablecards and 2 tuning adapters but still no luck. A COX technician spent 4 hours at my home and accomplished nothing. I have read other posts on this forum and I am concluding that my problem is 1) a bad cablecard, or 2) a bad COX setup. The HD HomeRun Prime setup all looks good. The system log of the network cable adapter shows that I "subscribe" to the channels that I can not tune in. Media Portal testing on the channels that can not be tuned give me two types of error messages: 1) NO PMT found, or 2) Unknown error. I can not figure out the MythTV logs. But that system crashes when I tune to an encrypted channel.
I am in the COX Phoenix, AZ market. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Only Windows Media Center (WMC) supports copy protection and Copy-Once content (most every Cox AZ channel except Locals) using a CableCARD, with a PC.
encryption and Copy-Once Protection are not the same.
If Cox would mark all channels (except Premiums) as Copy Freely then you would not have this issue.
This issue has been brought up many times and Cox will not give an honest answer, Comcast, Verizon FiOS and many other providers do not do this. Cox always states the content owners require this, which is BS, unless Cox gets some price break per channel by agreeing to do this.

Thanks for the information....your are 100% right. Windows Media Center worked fine. I agree that Cox needs to fix this. I will do what I can to add pressure to Cox to change its ways.

Unfortunately Cox is even worse now than they were years ago and they were pathetic then. My WMC is having problems getting the feed from Cox at times and just loses the signal and either Cox's piece o junk that goes to the HDHomerun has to be reset or the Homerun itself, and the picture fuzzes out occasionally when the feed drops a little lower. Wouldnt it be great if the satellites could somehow link with the HomeRun?
I just moved to AZ and had Comcast and never had a problem with the HomeRun or anything else for that matter.

If you are having problems getting some channels, I want to help. Do you get an error message or icon when this happens?
