The instructions in this article
http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=db0c9270-b1d9-11e2-d072-000000000000
do not work. When I try to create a new email address with the same address as an existing email per those directions using Internet Tools at
https://myaccount.cox.net/internettools/email/email.cox
I get the error message "The username is not available. Please choose another."
I would like to convert my Cox.net email addresses from POP3 to IMAP. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Laura

Email addresses aren't POP3 or IMAP. That being the case if you already have the email address you want you don't need to recreate it. The issue of POP3 vs IMAP is a matter of configuring your email software. You can reconfigure that by removing your email settings from your email program then adding it back using the settings in that first link. Internet Tools is not necessary to do this.

That's what I thought. But then why does the Cox support site have an article that tells users they have to recreate their email address in order to use IMAP?

I think it may be referring to having to remove and re-add your account settings in your email client/program. Email programs can't covert from one account type to the other, the settings usually have to be removed and then the account re-added as new using the new account type.
