I seem to always get a pop up about better adware...........what is going on? and how can I stop that?

The description you provided almost sounds like you may be experiencing symptoms of a malware infection.  I'd suggest doing a full scan with whatever anti-virus package you have installed or installing the McAfee we provide and scanning for threats.
