smtp.cox.net failure
I'm a new customer of cox. I set up a new email with cox. trying to send emails from this account end in a failure message, that the smtp.cox.net server timed out.
What is the problem?
I'm using thunderbird on a windows 7 ultimate 64bit machine.
The two gmail accounts work fine.

I just sent a test email to my gmail account and Cox Webmail is working OK.
I have been using Thunderbird Email for over a dozen years so nothing new with it.

Use one of the following outgoing SMTP ports:
I have always used port 465 so tried port 587 but sent email fails. Now changed back to port 465.

I too am having trouble only with SMTP. All accounts are receiving email but cannot send. Worked a few hours ago! Just to be sure, because it has fixed problems in the past, I first shut down the Mac mail app and restarted, that did not fix. So I just rebooted the machine and when the mail app started up I received mail but sending mail pending in the outgoing box tries for several minutes then gives up with verify your username and password. I have not changed them since it last sent email several hours ago, so what next?

OK, somebody somewhere did something because all of the sudden "Sending..." started up and the messages pending were sent successfully now several hours after trying to do the same thing but failing each time.

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience today! It appears that there is an issue affecting Cox Webmail at this time. Customers may experience difficulty logging into Webmail, sending or receiving mail, or be unable to download their mail to an email client. Our Email Administrators are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. If I get any further updates, I'll let you know.

Same problem here with Thunderbird. Log in and receives mail but when trying to send I have to enter password again for the SMTP. This started up yesterday. Southern AZ, Thunderbird with Win7.
