slow internet

Hello First, I am not very technical, so I will put that out there. I currently have the Preferred Internet package, but it certainly does not provide preferred speed. I am using the modem recommended by the Cox tech that came out to the house sometime last year. Sorry, not sure what model it is. The gentleman went across the street, handled the wiring, gave us a brand spanking new modem and off he went. We had no issues for months. As of the past couple of months, our internet has been spotty at best. 

I just checked the speed test and on my first attempt it timed out. Guess it was too slow. The second attempt yielded these results: Download speed 1.12 Mbps,  upload speed 2.8 Mbps. I assume that is pretty darn slow, especially for preferred? It sure felt slow. I could have taken a catnap while waiting for it to finish testing.

Anyhow, based on just this small amount of info, does this warrant a call to a technician, or is there something I should try first? I have reset it a few times, but it isn't fixing the problem long term.
