There is the main splitter off the main line coming into the house. There is one other splitter in the living room, which the modem is not connected to.

I've had this same problem over the past 3 or so months.  Have you noticed if there's a pattern where it happens at particular times?  It normally happens to me between 8:30 and 11pm (EST).  I also have a splitter, which I replaced twice, thinking it might have been bad.  But it still happens.

Yeah it seems to happen between 10 am and 4 pm pacific time. I thought possibly it was the splitters but both of them have been replaced.

Interesting that your modem identifies itself as a "TWC AWG Cable Modem" in its version string. I wonder if there are some Time Warner-specific firmware flags that make it behave oddly on other networks. I know we have had Cox-specific flags enabled on some of our Cisco firmwares that end in "-COX" in the past.

It may be worth a try to resend the firmware even though your version number is current, just to see if the Motorola stock version is better behaved.

I am also having the same issue.  I have removed the splitter and still no change. Please post again once this problem is resolved.
