Router closes port while I am working

I have internet because my job depends on me having access from home. My main application is SAP. When I am working, if I let the keyboard remain idle for more than a few seconds, which happens when you work from home and a call comes in, the router closes the port I am using. How do I turn off this automatic port closure?

What router or gateway do you have?

What ports does SAP use?

Do you have a VPN?

I have a Cox router, UBEE DDW365. I'm not sure which port is acting up; my co-workers say their Cox routers had the same issue but they couldn't remember the port. They said Cox helped them fix it. I've worked with and without the VPN and there is no difference.

Thanks.

Here is the manual. See page 34-48 on UPnP and Port forwarding. I think the issue may be the state time used on the connections opened for UPnP, but that can't be controlled on your gateway. You could disable UPnP and forward the ports instead, but even then Im not sure how the firewall would act. You could disable the firewall, but that's extreme and not suggested. Before you do anything, you would need to know more about the program and the ports involved. Can you contact your IT?

Hello Dlshopkins,

Would you be able to determine which port is being used?  Do you have another router that you could test?  Port forwarding is considered to be advanced changes to the router, we would not be able to assist with that.  You would have to speak with UBEE support.

Just to clarify, Cox may not be able to, but other users of the forum may.  Anyone have a Ubee or know of a emulator?

Also, you may want to consider getting a modem with a separate router if your doing work from home. It gives you greater control of your network and better customization. Your work may even have a suggested model.
