So after multiple tech visits they finally were able to tame the signal issue and it sits around -6dbmv my question is what still remains every 24 hours after a reboot of all equipment is a multitude of T errors and over 100,000 uncorrectables. I know when the techs come out they only look to see if its within the +/-10dbmv spec as that is all they care about, verify, and leave. What would be causing multitudes of T errors and 100k uncorrectables in a 24 hour period? Its been happening every day since the visit I know they installed some kind of filter on the outside cause they figured maybe one of the analog TVs in a room far away from the modem was causing backfeed into the lines. They also disabled 2 lines as they were leading to no where. Also replaced fittings in multiple street boxes in the block, not the cabling though. Problems seems to go unnoticed the tech said in my area cause its just me and 1 guy across the street that have cox services. So I guess a combo of all of the above finally got it comfortably within spec but theres still the issue of drops and errors with the uncorrectables. Take in mind we've tried different modems and pretty much only the drop splitter and outlet splitter was changed out on the visits. Guess they figure all the cabling is fine, nothing noticeable no bends or creases or fraying. Everything is finger tight. I know one of the techs wrenched the ends on but tried it both ways wrenched and finger tight. Nothing near the modem, and its not hot to the touch, vents arent blocked.

Hi, check to see if your firmware needs to be updated on your modem.

Isn't this something Cox controls? Don't think customers can update modem firmware.

Information
Standard Specification Compliant DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware Version A0
Software Version 5.5.8.6J
Cable Modem MAC Address fc:4a:e9:00:08:a3
Cable Modem Serial Number 1904-5341-00-03J-2212

As far as I know 5.5.8.6J is the most recent firmware but like Health Edge said it is something the cable company controls unlike routers and dsl modems, cable modem firmware is pushed from the cable companies end and not the users' end, though I wish it was. I do know the uncorretables and T errors can come from outages which you guys would have info on if there were any outages in the recent days in my area or any work being performed nearby that would have an impact on my service. Today actually everything is 0 uncorr for 18 hours uptime and 0 T errors which looks good. Signal is between -8 and -9dbmv some channels are over -10 on the downstream bonding SNR is between 36 and 37 ea ch. Upstream is between 46 and 49.5. Sometimes I wonder if I should install a signal amp, would be just finding a way of powering it since it'd be on the outside. Wish you guys added a network status on your site like you used to in the old days that you'd put in your zip or street and it'd tell ya. Not like the stuff they use now Is it down and it just tells you a maybe or maybe not before it would say Yes, No, even say if there was scheduled maintenance and stuff. Now all we can go on is this: http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/cox.com.html or this: https://downdetector.com/status/cox-communications/las-vegas where before you could use this : support.cox.com/sdcxuser/asp/cox_networkstatus.asp but alas the link no longer works and just redirects to support for Resi. That was a great tool. Fast, easy, instant, didn't have to call support and wait on hold to inquire. Sometimes the IVR doesn't tell you.

Hi, I forwarded your suggestion for a network status tool on our website to our programming team. Thank you for taking time to make the suggestion.

Thank You. I do have the latest firmware though? Pushing -10dbmv today SNR 37. Uncorrectables only in the 100s today much better than 100,000s. Lower T errors. Getting 50mbps download speeds finally yay (30s on speedtest but 50s on cox.com my account internet tools internet speed check). Much more stable.

That is a great improvement in speeds and stability. When I checked you have the most compatible version of firmware: SW_REV: 5.5.8.6J. Feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter @COXHELP as well.

Was anything done on the backend to make such a drastic improvement so quickly?

There is no maintenance that is showing for the area that we are aware of. I would keep a eye on the connection and see if you run into any issues down the road. Please let us know if we can be any further help.

The signal just fluxes a lot between -6 and over -10 also on the cox internet tools speedcheck its random normally only in the 20s mbps for dl but it achieves 50mbps sometimes. The techs at Zoom still think I have a signal issue going on here cause of the T errors and uncorrectables jumping suddenly high at random. Also even if it'll avg -6dbmv sometimes there will be a few channels really high over -10 and then a few at like -3 to offset. Was told each channel should be within a few db of the other but not so drastic like this its like its trying to offset the bad channels to keep the avg from 6 to 10 by throwing a 3 against a 10 or 13 and getting a ton of uncorrectables.

Hi vegasmar6,

I see the last speed test showed 45.07 Mbps on the download.  Are you testing using wireless or ethernet?  To get a true idea of the speeds you are getting it would be best to connect directly to the modem and run a few tests.  The modem history looks good from what I can see, at least for the last 3 days.

Just wonder why the uncorrectables get so high in 24 hour periods?

Figures nobody could answer it oh well.

The Uncorrectable packets will go up cumulatively until the modem is reset to zero out the result. Depending on the total traffic/packets on the modem it is not typically a symptom of a problem unless it is registering as a percentage of the total traffic which the modem at that point can not compensate for but fractions of a percent are not noticeable.

I believe the OP is asking about very high uncorrectables in the 24 hour period AFTER a modem reset, not a cumulative total over a long uptime. It's actually a very good question yet to be answered.
