Problem with XBOX 360

I have always had low bandwidth problems, and around 6 months ago I had a tech come and re-do the installation of my outdoor cables.  While he was here he "upgraded" me to a new Cisco DPQ3212 telephone modem.  Ever since then, I have had problems with my Xbox.  Every time I start a game, I get logged out...and every time I select a new screen while in the game I get logged out.  So basically, anytime I play an online game I get dropped and have to sign in at least 3 times.  I just lived with it until now.  Thinking it may have been my old D-Link DI-604 router, I just bought a new Asus RT-N56U...same problem.  So I figured something was wrong with the modem.  Just picked up a new modem at the Cox store this morning...same problem.  I will be receiving an Xbox One in a couple of weeks and would like to figure-out what is going on.  The Xbox is connected via Cat-6 cable.

To make things even more confusing, Cox doesn't even list the Cisco DPQ3212 as a compatible modem.  Do I need to go back to having separate devices for the phone and internet?

Please Help.

The 3212 isn't listed on the approved list because it's not available for customer purchase.  Rest assured it is perfectly suited for high speed Internet and phone service.  When I check from here however the modem appears offline suggesting that maybe there is a signal issue of some kind.  It may be time for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

I have personally played GOW 2 alot on my Xbox when I had a DPQ3212. No issues.

I don't see why you would get logged out just for changing the screen, since some screens don't even require a internet connection. What game are you playing? Have you tried bypassing the router? Does it give any error when you do a XBL connection test?

I'd try as Health Edge suggested testing without the router first to see if there is any difference in performance.  I finally found the correct modem from this end and I do now see proper signal levels.  For that matter I'm not seeing anything unusual from this end.

To Health Edge,

I don't see why either...doesn't make any sense.

It happens with any game or launching any app...but here is an example -- if I start COD as the game loads, I get logged out - I log back in and choose multiplayer or squads, I get logged out and have to log back in - then if I choose a game to play I may or may not get to play without logging back in.

Haven't tried bypassing the router, but its brand new and the problem was present before.

The Xbox thinks I have a good connection.

Then this is a issue with the Xbox somehow. Especially if the Xbox detects no problem with the connection. I would try deleting t he cache on the Xbox, see here for instructions. Usually happens if you download a big update or DLC for a game and something isn't optimized.

Doesn't matter how new it is. RT-N56U is a great router, but even a great router can have weird quirks that can be fixed by changing a setting. But before you start digging around in the settings its best to first isolate what is causing the problem. Thats assuming the instructions above don't work.

Thanks Health Edge, I'll give that a try.  Never thought of that.  We had a period of really bad connection and there may have been a problem with an XBOX update that happened during that time.  I associated the problem with the modem because mine was replaced during problem period in an attempt to improve my service.  Might just have been a coincidence.

I'll try it, and see what happens.  Thanks.

FYI, don't do any testing today. Looks like XBL is down for some.

Have tried to clear the cache, but it doesn't seem to do anything.  It brings up a progress bar that immediately disappears without showing any progress.  Doesn't give any message about the cache being cleared or not, doesn't show any change in the space available in the hard drive.  In other words... it doesn't seem to be doing it.

I think its time to call Xbox support then. You need to at least confirm the Xbox is working correctly.
