Playing a taped program gets interrupted when a new program starts on the same channel
When I play a program and a new program starts on the same channel, the box starts to show the new program.

Huh? What do you mean by "...on the same channel" ?? When you playback a recording, you are on a HDD, not a channel. Please explain exactly what you are doing, and what DVR you are using.

When you say "tape" do you mean VHS? Or are you using a Cox DVR?
