Playback Issue With Cisco Explorer 8642 HDC

After reading the forum I see I'm not the only one having this issue. Let me be as detailed as possible, so there is no confusion as to what the problem is.

- The issue I'm having is on a Cisco Explorer 8642 HDC DVR.

- It is NOT part of a Whole Home DVR system, rather it's a stand alone box.

- The box has been fine from its install (October '14) till a few weeks ago.

- It is directly connected from the wall outlet to the DVR (no splitter)

I'm having the same playback issue as several others on this Forum.  Recorded programs freeze repeatedly near the beginning of the program, then I get the "This recording is complete" message after only 10 minutes of playback.  Recording is not an issue, just playback. I have reset the box (unplug/replug) to no avail. I try just letting it play, FFing and/or Rewind, same thing - freeze then "This Program Has Finished Playing".  I know it recorded the full length of the show, so it's not a Record issue.  It affects both SD and HD shows, and not all episodes of series recorded are affected.

Having a DVR is only good if you can playback what you record.  It may be time to return the Contour box to the local office and get an old school Motorola box.

Please tell me there's an answer with an easy fix ...

Does this occur on just series recordings, on just single episode programmed recordings, or both?

Both.

This is last night's recordings:

8 PM series episode 1 hour. HD. Playback unwatchable, freezes 45 seconds into playback, then skips to 38 minute mark then "This Program Has Finished Playing".

10 PM simultaneous series recordings. Both 1 hour. Both HD. Both playback fine.

11:30 PM single episode recording. 30 minutes. HD. Freezes during both playback and FF attempts then "Finished Playing" message.

Strange. I've had a 8642HDC with Trio/Contour for well over 3-years without that sort of problem. I'd suggest you have Cox send a signal to reformat your HDD, but you will lose all recordings and settings. At last resort, a new HDD.
