Phone Not Ringing

I have a vintage GTE Starlite Touchtone phone plugged into the jack in my den.  When the other phones in the house ring, it sometimes takes two or more rings before the phone in the den starts ringing, sometimes it doesn't ring at all.  Otherwise it seems to work fine.  This just started happening after I switched to Cox Home Phone back in December.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Have you tried moving the phone to a different jack to see if the issue continues?

This can happen when too many phones on a line have their ringers enabled, it loads down the ringing current. As an experiment you could unplug one or two of the other phones to see if the problem still persists. "In the old days" ringing voltage was 90 volts at 20 hertz. If you are using a Cox modem, I don't know what they put out. A more technical explanation can be read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringer_equivalence_number

Are you using the original cord from phone to phone jack? Replacing that might decrease resistance enough to work around the problem. It makes sense the older touchtone phone would use up more signal since it's powered off the line.

It's a new modular line cord, so I suspect the problem is what you said about it drawing power from the line.  Fortunately, it only seems to be an intermittent problem.
