Our phone line has been stuck as busy resulting in tons of missed calls for the past 5 days. We have no ring tone and can't make or receive calls, the line is showing as in use. We have tried unplugging the modem from the wall line and plugging in 1 phone directly to the modem, it still remains stuck on busy. Even with nothing plugged into the modem its still "busy" when we try to call the number from our cell phone.

Resolved: Cox tech support wasn't much help though. Phone modem had only 1 light lit (downstream). They wanted me to unplug the power to reset the modem, I did so while informing them that these things also have a backup battery. They still couldn't get a response and wanted to schedule a tech to come (would have taken over a week) or to exchange our modem at the cox store. I rolled my eyes and unplugged the power again and this time the backup battery included, having actually reset the power the phone modem and all the lights came back on and starting worked just fine. Still this doesn't give us any compensation for 5 days of missed calls due to COX hardware failure.

I am so glad that the reset you did cleared this up and apologize that I didn't see your original post sooner! Our forums are intended for customers to assist each other with technical issues and sometimes there can be a delay depending on user activity.
If you ever run into a similar problem in the future you can also hit the reset button on the back of the modem to avoid having to remove the battery.
