No phone service

So frustrated! I have been without phone service for over a month, but have had to pay for it the entire time. I have tried everything the automated system has told me to do and what the reps in tech support tell me to do to. Nothing is working and I have been googling solutions with no success. I do NOT have a corded line and am NOT going out to buy one just to test my phone lines(though I did go out and buy a new cordless phone to see if that was the issue). My phone base is plugged directly into the modem and I still have no dial tone. I do still have internet and TV. I know when someone calls it just rings and rings, the number also pops up on our TV screen like it should. Ugh! The only reason I have a landline is for 911 calls. As a previous 911 dispatcher I know just dialing 911 from a landline will get help sent. I'm starting to think posting here is the only way I can get any assistance from Cox.

What phone modem do you have? Do you use the same modem for phone and internet?

Also try both phone plugs on the back. Sometimes they assign the number to the wrong plug.

What jack are you plugged into in the back of the modem? You want to make sure you are plugged into Tel 1/2.  Is the Tel 1 light on the front of the modem solid, flashing, or off?

I as given a new modem by Cox at the beginning of the summer. Everything worked fine then. The phone is plugged into the 1st jack on the modem and the second jack has the line running from the wall to the modem. I have also plugged the phone into every jack in this house, including the one the old phone worked off of. There is nothing else plugged in any where in the house.

The second jack in the back of the modem is only active if you have a second phone number on your account. The only jack that will carry your phone signal is the Tel 1/2. You can connect the Tel 1/2 to your wall outlet and that will activate all the rest of your outlets in your home or you can connect your phone to it and only that one phone will have a dial tone, unless it's a base set.

Ok. I had the phone hooked up that way as that's how my last modem was when I replaced it. Now the TEL1 and TEL2 lights on the front of the modem are flashing and there is still no dial tone. I tride unplugging the modem briefly and also pushing the reset button, but still nothing.

The phone service looks fine from here. Which way do you have the modem hooked up now?
