NETGEAR Modem and Internet Connection

Laptops get connected to the network but says NO INTERNET.  Sometimes the internet turns on by doing nothing but also turns off by doing nothing.  Bought the modem from Cox.

Hi,

What type of modem did you purchase? It sounds like a wireless gateway; when you lose the wireless connectivity are you able to get online using the ethernet ports? Have you noticed any change to the lights on the front when you lose connectivity?

I am having the same exact issue - my cox router (you call it a modem) continues to drop the connection of my router, and I lose connectivity for wireless and Ethernet-connected devices.  This has been happening since the power went down about 10 days ago due to the storms that ripped through Tulsa.  I live around 21st & Harvard...

Hi TeeTownMidtwon,

I can look into the connection issues that you're having with your modem/router. Please send us an email with the name and address listed on the account; send to cox.help@cox.com, we'll be happy to look into this for you. -Derrick

I'm having the same issue every single night the last 5-7 days or so.  Very irritating.  I pay for a service that I'm not getting. The "ONLINE" green light on the modem goes dark so I unplug the router and the modem for 10 seconds to reset them and plug them back in.  Most of the time this works but last night and tonight I had to do this a 2nd time.  Please provide the service I'm paying for!

It is a NETGEAR modem.  I noticed it happens when 5 connections are exceeded.  Disconnect something and the one that couldn't connect is then able to.  Are the internet connections limited to 5?

Howy31, sounds like your dhcp setup is limited to 5 ip's, that can be changed.  This is normally found in the LAN setup screen.  What model Netgear do you have, I may be able to point you directly to the screen.

Allen,

Model is C6300BD.  I looked around everywhere, I did not readily see where to change DHCP connection counts.

If you can help, greatly appreciated.

Check out p47 if the manual here.  It's under Advanced/Setup/LAN Setup  You give it the starting and ending DHCP addresses, the difference is the number of devices that can obtain an address.  1 is reserved for the router so the range can start at 2 or above and go up to 254.

Allen,

I did notice that modem page and it is set to 2 to 254.

I emailed Cox about this and they replied they don't set limits, but just instantly problem is gone.  Currently have 8 devices connected without issue.  This has been going on for weeks, so will go back to them if it reverts to 5 connections again.

Thanks.

@Howy31

It may be worth keeping track of whether or not it's a particular device that once connected you experience problems.
