modem/router
I have a Motorola modem and and a Linksys router. My connection to the internet is terrible, always been terrible since day 1 and I have been with cox over 10 years. What kind of modem does Cox recommend and what router does cox recommend? I would like to purchase a router/modem combo so what does Cox recommend? Is it best to get a separate modem and a separate router?

Well first, lets learn more about the problem. No point in just throwing money at the issue without understanding it. When you say terrible, can you explain? Is it slow? Does it go down sometimes? Seems strange you have been living with terrible internet for 10 years. Have you asked Cox about it before?
With that said, I STRONGLY suggest a separate modem and router. What modem and router you get depends alot on your needs and price point. Your probably going to want to get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, for both performance reasons...and I think those are the only ones they sell these days. I would suggest the Motorola SB6141 or the Cisco DPC3010. You can find a full list of Cox compatible devices here.
As for what router, I would need to know more about what you need. Do you have alot of wireless devices? Are they mostly G or N? Do you need to share a printer or USB drive?
