I tried to go though customer support but the automated thing is a joke so I will go through the forums. Was there some kind of technical problem with Cox Cable last night because all of my recording last night and this morning got a "Recording error". It is showing up but I can't play and only shows like 9:59 - 9:59 for example. Last night was the worst but I have been having these issues for the last week or so that is only fixed with a refresh. I shouldn't have to refresh my box ever day
I do not have Contour. I still have the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240HDC version or something like that. I am not sure what version of "software" I have but I just did a refresh so I should have the most recent version.

I have experienced the exact same problem over the last few weeks. Random shows did not record start time 7:59 end time 7:59 with recording error in red. I spoke to a tech at Cox who recommended a service call. Service call tech changed out the cable wires. Worked fine for a few days. This week back to the same problem. Called tech support and asked if I could change DVR box out. Mine was an old model. Did that today. Just hooked it all up and have fingers crossed that solves the problem. After reading you had the same problem am a little concerned though. We shall see.

Have you been receiving errors in the missed recordings section or while setting up recordings?

I started getting the same problem only about a week ago on a fairly new Explorer 8240HDC. I typically set up several late night shows as "record entire series". Usually only one of them shows a "recording error" the next day, but one that fails always shows the same start-end times (9:59-9:59pm). A few days ago I stayed up and watched the DVR go through it's paces. Just before the recording start time I confirmed that the start and end times were correct in the TV listing "guide" for that show. However, at the start of the recording time the red recording icon would light up for only few seconds and then go off. Later when I looked for the recording I found the "recording error" in red font. What is strange is that another late night show recorded perfectly the same night. Can anyone at COX explain how the start and end times end up the same? They are correct in the recording set up. Maybe the DVR is getting the wrong "header" info from the provider....I don't think it's the DVR.
I have tried deleting the "record entire series" and re-entering it from scratch. This did not solve the problem.
...very frustrating.

Is this error only happening on the late night shows, or all programming that is set up as a series? Do you have the same result if you record one as an individual recording?

It happens any time of the day, and I only (ever) record one show at a time. That is, any given recording start-end time does NOT overlap with other recordings. I've tried re-booting by DVR and seems to fix the problem temporarily, but it always comes back.
At this point, I am extremely frustrated and think I will return the DVR.

Hey Andrew (chizmooz) ,
I've made a few changes on the account with the devices. Test the recording tonight or when you have time and let us know if the issue is still happening.

Hi Shariel,
I wasn't aware that you had done anything, so I rebooted by DVR again. Well, everything (about 5 shows) recorded. I just can't tell if it was the reboot or the changes that you made. I'll continue to try to record and if the issues persist I'll post the details.
Thanks!
Andrew
