Loss of Sound

I have a "home theatre set up" with a Denon receiver, speakers etc. I have lost the ability to get video and audio. Right now I am HDMI 1 into my receiver. No video or audio.

When I took the HDMI 1 and put it directly into my Cox cable box, I can now get video but NO audio. ( Was expecting audio to work on my Toshiba TV 55 LCD because I completely bypassed the Denon. I have the audio settings on PC- No, HDMI 1 and Dolby (Those are my only options.)

Am I missing something here? I know my receiver is a mess but it should work directly and come out my Toshiba TV, right?

Please offer a clearer explanation on how you have this wired.

Example, HDMI FROM cable box (model #) TO Denon receiver _____ input, HDMI FROM Denon receiver _____ output TO Toshiba TV ______ input.  Etc....

Hi Michael,

There are multiple ways to set up your sound system, depending on the system components and connection cables you have on hand. For diagrams specific to Denon, I would need to refer you to the manual for the Denon system. You might try the Denon website!

To break the connections down as simple as possible, they should be as follows:

  1. Use a set of red and white audio cables to connect the Audio Out on the cable box to Audio In on the Denon.
  2. Use a second set of audio cables to connect Audio Out on the Denon to Audio In on the back of your TV.
  3. If you have the remote code for the Denon, you may be able to program the Cox remote control to operate the Denon receiver through the AUX button on Cox remote.

While we don't have a Support article that specifically diagrams what you are looking for, the following pages may be helpful:
