Isn't real caller-id suppose to be Name not number?

The originating telephone carrier forwards the Caller Line Identification Number along with the call. It is up to the destination carrier to interpret that telephone number and retrieve a name, if available, from a database. Some carriers maintain their own databases while others use external sources.
