Is there such a thing as "home business" plans anymore? I need a static IP and open ports, but dont want a full blown business account.

I'm on ultimate right now and will be deploying a few small traffic servers both for learning purposes and to offset costs from colo'ing in a DC.

I know cox resi blocks port 25, and 80 and those are the two im concerned about.

I would be open to switching over to some sort of plan that unblocks these ports and provides static IPs but after seeing the price difference between business and resi its pretty enormous.. $180/mo for a 25/5 is pretty price gougy.

I've heard rumors of "home business" plans that give you higher U/D but at just a bit more than residential would be.

Anyone else heard of this?

I think they no longer offer the "Home Business" price packages and are setting up new customers under "Cox Business Internet". Alot of it depends on your market though, so your best bet is to call and find out.

Home business and business accounts are indeed one in the same and handled by the same group.  While there is an added cost additional features are available such as multiple static IP's, faster SLA for service visits, and unfiltered ports.  I believe rates are negotiable in exchange for longer term commitments.
