The modem looks good from this end however it appears a 100Mbps device is connected to it at the present. What make/model router do you have?

My internet has been okay for about 2 years until 4 months ago. Tried to contact Cox MULTIPLE times and the best the customer service was able to do was to tell me me that COX does not guarantee WiFi speeds, so sorry, have to deal with 0.38mbps (currently paying for 50/5). Upload speed is decent but download speed is non-existent. Took me 4 minutes to access this page. So pretty much they told me you need to be hard wired to get about 20 mbps download speed. Eventually got a follow up call after sending a survey response in. Internet has gotten much better 30+ for about a week after a firmware upgrade and router reset (router has been reset previously and it did not help). I was also told that I have a very good router by the Cox rep. Now we are back to where we were before and paying to the tune of $70+ per month for outrageous non-existent internet. Customer service which is probably outsourced anyways does not exist either until you take the time to submit a survey response.

Perhaps we can take a look. For starters, could you visit http://192.168.100.1 and post the signal status and modem logs (if available) so we may take a look?

This might indicate a connection failure between the PC and modem. Feel free to email us at cox.help@cox.com with your account details for further assistance.

I believe that COX is incapable of delivering what they advertise. We are paying for 100 mbps and haven't gotten anything close to that since October 2014. We consistently get about half advertised speed. I expect that COX will claim that it is our hardware but this is BS since it worked back in October when they were rolling out faster service and needed good press. Hopefully now that internet is going to be regulated as a public utility, COX will stop their false advertising.

I looked at the connection from this end however I do indeed see an equipment problem that needs to be addressed. From what I can see on this end the router being used doesn't appear to be fast enough to support a 100Mbps connection. Can you try testing with a PC connected directly to the modem which supports a gigabit Ethernet connection?

Typical COX response. I don't need a gigabit device to get 100 mbps speed. Why did it work in October and never since with no changes to equipment? Maybe I should just downgrade my service from Premier. I expect that when I downgrade I still wont get the speed advertised. Since the speed I am getting is the speed advertised for the next tier down, can you guarantee that the speed I am getting now down won't get worse? Next you will remind me that speeds are not guaranteed (maybe should be speed won't even be close).

What make/model router do you have? I'd be happy to see if I can info about it's top speed.

Router is D-Link D-615 (a 10/100 router set to 100 mbps only WAN), latest available firmware. Modem is Motorola SB6141 with 8x4 channels operational. We've already had a tech out because COX phone service had crapped out and a recording was telling callers that the phone network was out. He fixed it by repairing faulty COX equipment. He checked signal response on all devices (phone, cable and internet). All were within acceptable tolerances. We do live in a lower income area so we are used to getting lousy service. What about just downgrading to what COX can deliver?

Indeed that is an older model router. Effective maximum throughput is typically around 60Mbps or so. If you try to exceed that number the traffic gets lost effectively lowering performance even lower than that. This may very well explain why you were getting top speeds up until about October. I believe that's about when we increased speeds. Not sure what was going on with phone, that sounds like a separate issue. The signals all being within acceptable levels wouldn't have any impact on the router issue we've been discussing. Testing the connection without the router is definitely a cheap and easy thing to try. If you don't want to address anything to do with the router I think downgrading your services would probably be your best option.

I'd suggest testing without the router as well and see what results you get.

I do, on the preferred plan I regularly get 60+Mbps down and about 6-7Mbps up using AC wireless on the 5GHz band. I agree with Chris, connect wired direct to the modem and bypass your router. That will help isolate the problem.
