Internet speed always low

Hello. I have the modem combo provided by cox when I switched to a higher tier Internet speed maybe 1 year ago. My Internet was running fine, maybe 50 mbps download speed or a little lower before Cox decided to "double" the speed. I am paying $70+ for the 100 mbps speed but right now running speed tests on the cox website I'm in mid 30 or lower! I have called multiple times and they only reset the connection which does nothing. Even hard wired in only gets maybe 50mbps. The techs say the signal is coming in at 100mbps but then why is my wired device only getting 50? Where am I bottlenecking on the speed? I feel like I'm paying so much and am at a loss for what to do. The last time they came out they said there was a problem with the cox line in but they worked on that the next day. Any advice is appreciated. I know wireless will lose some speed but more than half? Also the tv near the modem pixelates a lot.

Wireless can slow down the connection depending on distance from the router and interference from other electric devices and wireless signals though how much it would slow down the connection is hard to say. Is it just the one computer you are testing the connection on for the speed issues or is it happening on multiple computers/devices?

It's not that wireless loses half, it has a maximum which is based on a number of things like band, interference, spec of device accessing and number of devices using it. Mid 30 or lower is nothing strange for a wireless connection, unless you have a top of the line wireless chipset at both ends you're not going to get better from a real world speed test.  If you have the cox provided wireless/modem combo then your getting what it can deliver, they may advertise fastest wireless but it's not a reality.

As for the speed when hard wired, that's a different story.  If your line was set at 50 the speed test should show around 60-65 with the speed boost Cox give the beginning of any transfer, its for things like speed tests to make their line look better then it really is.

You should log into the router and check the signal strength of the bound channels, its manual will tell you how or cox can check I imagine if they provide it.
