Install on Advance TV vs Preferred
I am trying to order service for a TV/internet bundle, and want to do the $99 tv preferred/internet preferred package, but they want to charge me $60 pro install. If I purchase the $89 advance tv/internet preferred bundle, I can select self install for $30. Can anyone explain to me why I need a pro install to get a few additional channels? How does that make any sense? I will just be using a cable card and do not need any assistance setting anything up other than the call to customer service to activate my card, it's bad enough I get charged $30 for that, but a $60 pro install? Not happening. Until someone can explain how this is necessary or wave the pro install I will not be using cox service.

And after looking further, if I just order Advance TV Preferred or if I order it with any other internet package than Preferred Internet, I can select self install. The second I add Internet Preferred, I lose the option for self install. This has got to be a mistake, because I see no rational way that would make any sense. What is special about that particular combination that requires pro install? Am I missing something here?

Where are you seeing those installation prices. Neither of those packages include a Contour DVR package, so I see no need for the pro install. The price list, http://ww2.cox.com/residential/tv/prices.cox ,lists both install options with no caveats. If a CSR told you this, I'd switch to a different CSR. JMO.

That's when trying to order online. Anytime that combination of tv/internet is checked it will not let me select self install. You're right, the price list states nothing about needing pro install for that selection, it's clearly a bug on the website (there seem to be many). I ended up calling and ordering over the phone. I just prefer ordering online typically, but they need to get that fixed first

I'm glad to hear that you've gotten everything taken care of; however for clarification purposes, let me explain. The reason for the pro install is because TV Preferred includes a Contour DVR. Advanced TV doesn't. You can see the particulars of the package by clicking the Quick View button.
TV Preferred includes the following:
220+ channels
Includes the Variety Pak
Add premiums like HBO & Cinemax
Popular channels like ESPN, Discovery, and History
Get a Whole Home DVR to record & watch TV anywhere in your home
Free HD programming included
Hope this helps!

The "TV Preferred" package does NOT include a DVR of any kind. It is an add-on option. See
https://store.cox.com/residential-store/shop.cox?dc=w#
Your confused by the sentence "Get a Whole Home DVR to record & watch TV anywhere in your home." It's telling you to GET ONE! It does NOT say it includes one. Even the higher priced "TV Premier" doesn't include a DVR. It's listed as an add-on option.
Click on the COMPARE tab for both the "Preferred TV" and the "Premier TV" packages. Both packages list a DVR as an add-on option. In fact, https://store.cox.com/residential-store/product-details.cox?conversationId=82342 tells you how much EXTRA it would cost to add a DVR and DVR service.
