if ibuy a gateway off amazon

Have a question about shopping for a modem or gateway.  is any gateway/modem compatible with cox or are there certain brands more compatible than others? i called 4 months ago  with another issue (slow speeds at peak hours 5 down that took about 4 months to fix) and i heard something about my current modem has 4 of something and is why i get 130 down, which i was fine with, i just wanted the 5 down at peak hours to get fixed lol.

anyways just wondering what i should look for when i get a new gateway.  main reason im ditching this one is the wireless **. constantly have to hit the wireless button to connect devices to it. have to use a 2ndary router for lot of my phone/tablet devices.anyways figure fix 2 birds with one stone getting a new gateway. just nto sure which one i should get =p

If you really want to kill those two birds, don't get a gateway!  Get a separate modem and router.  Any modem here on Cox's approved list approved for your level of service should work.  Don't get an 8x4 channel modem for Ultimate service and don't get any listed as WiFi, that's a gateway.  The ARRIS/Motorols SB6183 or SB6190 seem to be popular.  For a router, the Netgear Nighthawk series or ASUS should work fine.  You want gigabit Ethernet connections and wireless ac, even if you don't have ac devices now, to future-proof your purchase.

thx for info will digest and research some of that.

i might get a gigabit router because google fiber is coming through here on it's way to NC. have to go with which ever option is cheaper in 2 years hehe.

im thinking about this one

http://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SB6190-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B016PE1X5K/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461010753&sr=1-3&keywords=arris+modem&refinements=p_89%3AArris

think 200 is the max here. google fiber is coming though in a year or 2 so cox probably will add more speeds by then. think that's good enough for future proofing without paying too much? =p

The SB6190 is a good choice for your modem.  Don't forget, you need to complement it with a gigabit router.  Don't blow too much of your budget on the modem alone   The router will be usable when fiber comes to your neighborhood.
