How do I check signal strength with remote? (Cisco Explorer cable box)

After years of weak signal, Cox ran a new and better line to my house.  Picture outages persist requiring regular re-booting.  I wonder if I may now have too much signal?  Thanks

What signal level are you seeing in your diagnostics? How to enter diagnostics varies with STB/DVR model number and software being used.

On Scientific Atlanta/Cisco receivers with Rovi, you can get to the diagnostic screens by holding down "select" plus "exit" on the front panel until "DIAG" appears on the display, then hitting "exit" again, and signal strength will be visible under "RF network," at least on the 8240HDC I have here to test.

I'm not sure if this applies to the newest models, and it probably doesn't apply to the ones that run Trio (I haven't had a chance to check and update my little notebook of undocumented features ).

And in this case, pulling the levels for your user account it looks like some boxes have enough signal and others too little, and your inside lines/splitters probably need to be rechecked and rebalanced. We have a few different signal readings on every box, and your current snapshot shows yours all over the board. One has +9 RX for converter data and +6 for video at 621mhz, another shows -32 for converter data and -20 for video at 621mhz.

They all show decent return levels (34-44), though, which is odd with such a wide variety of reception problems. Do you have any kind of amplifier installed?

On 8642, 8742 running TRIO, hold "SELECT" key on remote unit power icon LED starts blinking (about 5-10 seconds), then press up arrow (just above select key), or...

Press POWER ON/OFF button on front panel until power icon starts blinking (about 5-10 seconds) then release and briefly press again.
