how can I get the speed that I pay for?

have had tech's over here to resolve but they don't seem to be able to repair. told me that my modem was failing but googled it and found out cox switched to a 3.0 modem. so a year ago bought a 3.0 modem. Cox keeps upping their price and wants me to up my speed. I keep saying you don't give me the speed I pay for now. have run speed test off cox site due to the one on the cox site times out due to time out error.

I'd suggest starting with the basics to try and figure out what is happening.  Can you test the speeds with a PC connected directly to the modem?  I'd also suggest visiting http://192.168.100.1 and posting the signal status and logs (if available) so we can take a look for you.

In addition to the info ChrisL requested, how about:
- What plan are you on ... what is your expected speed?
- What are you getting ... speed test results
- What modem/router/gateway are you using
- Are you testing over WiFi or wired?

Also, what are the specs on your computer as far as connection speed? If you're wired, are you 10/100 (Fe...Fast Ethernet) or 10/100/1000 (Gbe...Gigabit Ethernet)? If you're wireless, what standard is being used by both the computer and router? If your router is the fastest wireless available (which is AC), but your computer is running a slower speed (let's say, wireless G), and you have a higher tier plan with Cox, this will slow you down. The same would also hold true if your computer is AC, but your router is slower (let's say, G). Your speeds can only be as fast as the slowest device in the 'chain'.

Also, specifically what model modem are you using (not just it's DOCSIS 3.0). A Surfboard 6121 is 3.0, but you won't get speeds any higher than the 50Mbps plan with Cox (at least, according to Cox's website and modem recommendations). If you have a 6121 and are trying to use a package higher than 50 down, you won't see the higher speeds (again, according to Cox's website).
