HDMI Issue - Intermittent video flashing - HD Cable box - Samsung LED Smart TV

Picture flashes off and on.  I have to switch channels or turn off the TV to get it to stop.  Using HDMI, CISCO HD cable box, and nearly new Samsung 40" LED smart TV.  Had to drop HDMI and go back to coax.  Defective cable box or compatibility issue?  I suspect the cable box due to the TV picture going out on a 2 year old LG LCD TV using HDMI and the same cable box.  My Samsung 55" plasma using a different but identical cable box has no issues.  Any ideas

"due to the TV picture going out on a 2 year old LG LCD TV"

Was the problem as common with the LCD TV? Also, what model is the new LED TV?

" TV using HDMI"

Have you tried a new/different HDMI?

"Samsung 55" plasma using a different but identical cable box has no issues."

If you wanted to see if it was the box, try swapping the two between the Samsung and new LED TV?

Does the picture flash blue and white?  Top half of the screen flashes blue, bottom half of the screen flashes white, audio will drop out, normal picture with audio resumes...and then it repeats at 1 second intervals?  That's what mine does occasionally.

It happens when I change channels from a high def resolution to a low def resolution, such as Fox HD to the On Demand program guide.  Again, only occasionally.  To stop the flashing, I direct dial to a high def channel and then attempt the On Demand again.  That usually stops it.

I suspect the cable box.  It's low-quality junk that we're forced to rent.

Have you tried connecting it with a different HDMI cord? If you try a different HDMI cord and the problem continues, it's possible that the cable box needs to be replaced. Are you able to connect the cable box to the TV with component cables rather than HDMI? Perhaps the HDMI port on the cable box is failing. You can swap that receiver at a Cox Solutions Store.

Slash their funding?  Heck, abolish the FCC.  They're ineffective anyway.  They can't stop forced rentals...they can't stop robocalls...they can't enforce neutrality....all they do is harass Howard Stern.

Without them, who will even try? If you think this will help, I think you are mistaken.

The flashing happens quickly.  All I see is the entire picture disappearing and redisplaying.  I never see the different colors on the top or bottom half.  Sometimes going to another non-high def station like OETA in the OKC area will stop it.  Sometimes it doesn't.  I suspect the cable box as well.  Somebody suggested that I swap HD boxes.  I have two.  I also might swap the HDMI cables.  I have 3 to choose from.  It will take a bit of time to try this out and determine root cause but it will be worth it.  The HDMI is nice.  Thanks for the feedback. I'll post when I have a resolution.

Swapping the cable box is a good idea.  Flat forgot about that approach.  I might also swap HDMI cables.  I have 3 types.  Will post when I have a resolution.

Thanks for the reminder.  I forgot about swapping my HD cable boxes.  I'll also try swapping HDMI cables.  May take a while.  Will take one thing at a time.  It may take a while to identify the root cause but I will post the solution when I know I have something.
