I have had a noticeable uptick in SPAM email ever the change to the new mail system. As a result I have been trying to setup email Filter Rules but to no noticeable avail. I guess I need some help because there is a lack of information on the email and internet support web pages.
The two screen shots are from a recent SPAM email. I have tried a number of various combinations including what I thought were wild cards in the sender address but nothing seems to work. Email is not discarded, or doesn't seem to be, if it meets any of the criteria I setup.

Those articles are all well and good but neither one explains how to set up Filter Rules. So any help on that issue.

Filter Rules
You can create, edit, and delete rules for incoming emails.

So I have a Filter Rule as seen in the screen shot. Low and behold I get two (2) messages in the SPAM folder this morning. The rule clearly says to DISCARD the message. So what is going on. I have also received numerous other SPAM messages in our email this morning. Please note I have blanked my name from the start of the SUBJECT > CONTAINS field.
It appears the FILTER RULES simply do NOT WORK...

Nor do Blocking email addresses of the senders. I keep getting SPAM from email addresses already in my Blocked list but they keep on coming...
Yikes...

Do you have the filter rule set to apply rule if any conditions are met? What is the sender information that is not blocking? Thanks

This poor customer...CUSTOMER...WE PAY FOR THIS! Is not the only one. Any of you see my post on apps? And btw, where the *** are we supposed to post on email issues since cox made it a 'thing?"
my take is that I spent 24 years building my spam filter (and I literally go THRU the phone when cox employees thank me for that...like I had a choice!) and now I'm starting from scratch. I even got a phishing email for my cox account last week.
will somebody please just admit it instead of having us spinning our wheels deleting & reading &changing passwords, etc.
it's cox. Not you sooner all. I remember you helping me on another thread. We are NOT being treated acceptably.

Just an update to this question concerning Filter Rules...
I received a reply from cox.help@cox.com that suggested shortening my existing Filter Rules. Here is the reply from a support specialist named Dustin...
Thank you for allowing our Social Media Team to take a closer look and notate your account. I was able to review your forums and try some things on my personal cox.net account. I wasn't able to duplicate the error you're experiencing when setting filters to discard or trash. Because spammers randomize things like sender and subject, I recommend trying to cut down on the words in the subject to maybe three key words. Instead of using "time to claim your medicare free quote", can you edit the filter to "claim medicare quote"? If you save changes and the action to trash, can you check these settings and share your findings if these spam emails goes to your trash folder?
So I implemented the suggestion and have since reduced the amount of received SPAM from 3 to 4 or more per day to 1 to 3 in the last 9 days. That is BIG difference IMHO. The screen shot is an example Filter Rule.
I certainly hope this provides some relief for other and a thanks to the Cox support folks...

I, too, recently updated my Filter Rules for spam to ensure each filter contained no more than three words. It looks like my most successful filters so far are "Medicare", "You won", and "Take advantage of". Dustin's suggestion really works!

you might want to add "free amazon card" to that. it's popular lately. has nothing to do with amazon.
also, how do i STOP my paypal confirmations of payments from going INTO spam?

I suggest creating a folder called "PayPal", and then creating a Filter that moves emails with "PayPal" in the subject line to the PayPal folder. Let us know how it works!
