Extremely Unreliable Upload Speeds

I have a service call scheduled for today, but I'm not sure what to tell the technician.

I called Saturday afternoon after the other technician left and explained that the upload speed was fine until he closed up the cable boxes outside of the home.

The problem I am having relates only to upload speed and not download speed. When I called tech support I spoke to a level 2 technician who said they could not see my new Ubee docsis 3.0 modem uploading with 4 channels they could only see 1 channel uploading. I confirmed this by accessing the modem settings via 192.168.100.1 and entering in my login information. It showed only 1 channel bonded and the others "unknown".

They said that it could be a grounding issue preventing signal. I am confused and I hope that this gets fixed, today. I am scheduled for a 3pm-5pm service call.

How many channels in Phoenix, AZ are supposed to be bonded? is it supposed to be 4 in the upstream and 8 in the downstream?

Hello Susanm,

That would depend on what type of modem you have. For the one you have currently, you should get up to 8 channels for download and 4 for upload. I see that only one upload channel is bonded right now. We do have a technician coming out today to look into this. Please let us know if you need additional assistance.

Mark was great! Looked at the signal levels and corrected them. Now all 4 up and all 8 down are bonded. He even fixed the signals on one of our cable boxes that was very near to failing. However, the first technician (who wasn't Mark) didn't call at all and tried to say nobody was home. Perhaps, he should get reprimanded for not telling the truth.

If you have a grounding issue, as in how your house is electrically grounded to the earth, can cause ingress issues (outside wireless signals) to leak in and with no ground, it can travel into the coaxial wire. Depending on the frequency, this could cause a problem with the upstream. Sounds plausible at least. I say stick with the Technician. Was the device recently installed?

But you already knew this. Forgot to scroll all the way down and see you already got the tech. Doh! LOL Well glad everything is working.
