External eSATA HDD support for Cisco 8742HDC STB?

Has Cox allowed support for attaching an external eSATA hard drive to the Cisco 8742HDC set-top box? I've seen posts on other forums from people who have tried. One or two have succeeded, most have failed and then had issues with their STBs. From what I've read also, it was planned for support in a 'future release of firmware' about a year ago... but I haven't found any other reference yet. I'd really like to know what the status is now. Thank you.

Hi Digitania,

I know that many folks had success connecting the SA8240 to a few different e-SATA devices, but I haven't heard if the newer Cisco model DVRs (including the 8742) have the same functionality.

I'm not sure if the e-SATA port on the Cisco 8742 is even functional with the current firmware, but I will try to find out and update you as soon as possible!

Thanks for a great question.

Yes it's active (1.5 Gbs), but it's software controlled. Trio (Contour) or other software on the 8742HDC does not support external HDDs.
