Event ID 500

I need simple suggestions as I don't know much about computers. I am getting a freeze on web pages and the messages is that Windows is trying to recover. Interest Explore then shows it is trying to get the web page back. Then an Event IDS 500 is issued and this is happening so much. I even got 2 windows indicating that if I had new hardware installed. . . and then the window writing disappeared so I couldn't read it all. Cox tech doesn't believe it is Cox, isn't really sure, but that it may be related to Microsoft with their updating to Windows 10 later this month. I have Windows 7 home now. I did change over a while back to the Cox router and increased speed, etc. Keep any suggestions really simple for me to try. Thanks for any help. I'm mobility disabled and rely on my laptop, which is always at my desk at home. Modem: Ubee DVW326B Acer Aspire 5552 Laptop, 4.0 GB (3.75 GB usable), 64- bit operating system Internet Explorer 11 Windows 7 Home Premium

They aren't sure? Wow, how low Cox technical support has fallen. That is NOT a Cox problem. Anything related to your browser or Computer OS is not a ISP issue.

Sounds like something in your browser is filling up system memory and causing a crash. Have you done a antivirus and antimalware scan?

Event ID 500 is primarily caused by the over use of the graphics subsystem, which is controlled by the Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) process.

This could be related to the following issues:

  •  The graphical display device drivers may not be fully compatible with the Windows Display Driver Model.
  •  The Windows Aero feature may not function correctly if your computer resources are insufficient due to running a high number of background application

Hi CatBoss, the error message indicates that this is an issue with your graphics systems on your computer. It is most likely related to:
- The graphical display device drivers may not be fully compatible with the Windows Display Driver Model.

Try updating your graphics drivers. So, for example, if have an Nvidia graphics card, you would be able to download the latest graphics driver from their website.

-The Windows Aero feature may not function correctly if your computer resources are insufficient due to running a high number of background application.

Try closing any background applications that are graphics intensive. In other words, don not leave programs open and running in the background.

If you equipment is still under warranty you should contact the computer manufacturer for further instructions and assistance.
