Essential internet service too slow for new FCC benchmark

As of January 29, 2015, the FCC benchmark speed for broadband service was raised to 25 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up.  This means the 5/1 speed of essential service is no longer considered "high speed" or broadband.  Considering the cost of my now non-broadband service increased in January, and the essential service was not included in the previous doubling of speed that everybody else enjoyed for free, I would like to know when cox is going to increase my speed on the essential service (for free) and get me up to at least the 25/3 benchmark.  Thank you.

Why does Cox have to increase the speed of a package just because another group changes how it defines a classification? Cox service is HFC, the naming of "broadband" is just branding to allow people who have no idea how the technology works to comprehend service differences.  I am all for increasing the bar on what ISP offer, but I think that should come from the top, and not the bottom of the service tier. Companies like Google have pushed many ISPs to offer Gb service, which really pushes us up a notch to meet World standards.

As an alternative, Cox could just rename "Essential" as its "DSL+" service, or drop it entirely and force users to upgrade to Preferred. Would you like that?

While I don't have exact launch dates, I'm pleased to let you know that the speeds of our Starter and Essential tiers are increasing very soon! Increases will be rolling out to all Cox markets in the next couple of months. We are committed to improving the internet experience for all our customers, not just those in our highest packages.
