Were they all older and unread items by chance?  As part of the server housekeeping process unread emails in the inbox are automatically purged after 60 days.

My e-mails also keep disappearing, the ones I want to keep that were in my inbox are gone, they are not in the trash, I have now created a rule to move all incoming mail to a folder "safe Inbox" to see if they will stay in there, I called cox for support they do not appear to know whats happening. so frustrating to lose e-mails that are important to me, from a service I pay for
