Email issues"cannot send mail The username or password for smtp is incorrect"
I'm using a MacBook running OS X 10.10.5 and an iPhone 5S running iOS 9.3.2. On both the laptop and the phone my email keeps dropping out. I start getting the message "cannot send mail The username or password for smtp is incorrect" and no amount of password resetting, account deleting or other recommended trouble shooting techniques work.
Any suggestions?

Can you post what you have for Outgoing settings and Outgoing settings > Advanced as seen here? My guess is you might have to switch from SSL to TLS.

You are not alone. This problem started November, 2014 and continued thru June 2015. It was associated with Apple products. Cox switched some people to a different server which helped for a few weeks before the problems reappeared. They must have fixed something because i have only had the "username or password is incorrect" message twice in the last 12 months. As you experienced, entering the correct password does not help.
The problem usually cleared up by itself in 1-2 hours and i could send emails. On a few occasions, the problem lasted for more than 2 hours. I also had intermittent problems receiving emails. My inbox was empty but i would be warned by an icon next to my inbox that looked like an inverted U (it also looked like a set of headphones).
Please report back and tell us what happens.
