DISGUSTED!

Not only has Cox increased rates recently, but we must now have mini boxes. As best I can decipher, the rate increase was because this rich company was afraid of losing money due to folks streaming on the internet. And, now, we are being forced to comply with their digital only nonsense. Worst of all, I can't get a clear answer as to what would happen to my service if I didn't install little boxes. If I have NO service, will I get NO bill? If I get only local channels, what will the reduction in my bill be? I DON"T LIKE BEING BULLIED! I ordered the 2 boxes but am searching out alternatives now., ie. Roku, Century Link, the new antenna, etc. Does anyone think that they will ever get these boxes back? Sick of this company. Already have a bundle with Century Link, so likely to go in that direction temporarily. I expect that a lot of people are going to find alternatives. Cox has always been poor. I am so sorry to have stayed with them for over 20 years, but they were the only company available in my area when I started. They continue, to this day, to have blackouts and screen freezes often. When it storms, they still can't deal with it. I used to joke that it only had to cloud up to lose cable. It's as true today as it was in 1995. RUN! RUN! RUN! to somewhere else!

The clear answer is .... if you don't have some form of set-top-box, either a full digital box or minibox, you won't get TV service on that TV.  If you don't have a box on any TV and get no service, you might as well cancel and get no bill ... that is unless you are under contract and have an early termination fee.

Good luck with your search, any other service you mention, except an OTA antenna, will require some form of box connected to each TV getting service.  BTW, the antenna isn't a new idea, I watched "I Love Lucy" in the 1950's using one and actually watched HDTV more than a decade ago, long before cable even offered it.

Like you I have had Cox for a long time (18 years) when they started switching to digital the picture got pixalated, and the sound cuts in and out intermittently on all channels. I got the mini boxes, it improved but not much. They sent a technician who changed an outside splitter, and moved the mini boxes around, but I still have the problem. They charged me seventy five dollars for the service call, which they took off my bill when I complained. I'm with you it is time to do something different.

DISCLAIMER: Although I mentioned the word "bill" this is not a billing question.
