Disconnect and Reconnect when downloading data

Hello,

I am having a problem. I am setting up a new computer and am downloading a bunch of stuff to set up from steam and the origin store. Every time I set a large download it starts. goes for a few minutes, then I get a high traffic warning from the netgear genie and lose internet connectivity. 

I have tested with other things as well. this problem reoccurs every time now. 

I currently have a DOCSIS 2.0 modem. Should I put out the cash for a new DOCSIS 3.0? If I do this would that fix this issue?
