Crazy/Spike/Low Upload/download speed.

For the passed 4 year's my family has suffered from crazy spikes, packet loss, and slow internet provided by cox internet. I have the 30DL/5UL plan, with reg/ cable TV. Issue with it is every few months I get huge packet loss, random disconnects, and slow speeds. this period last for a month or so of consistent calling of Tech support from Cox.

Every time I call the support, I get the turn around. It's this, Its that, or try this or try that. I HAVE DONE IT ALL. I do all of it before I call and waste my time. With that being said, I will only go over this event for the sake of dignity to the cox support.

2 weeks ago, I started getting bad packet loss and Jitters. I ran my speeds on cox speed checker, Pingtest . net and speedtest . net. It is clear I was having issues since I was getting web hang ups and everything. I call tech support for them to only send out 2 techs. These techs plugged in their unit and that was it. Said they didnt see anything that is causing it. So few days after they left it stopped.

Till about 2 days ago. I started noticing my uploading speed was spiking so bad. I tested it and dub checked it and it was coming back with solid download speed, but the upload was less than half '1.5Mbs' of what I am suppose to get '5Mbs'. I call cox about the issue, and all I get is the reach around. Sent to a Tech 2 support guy to tell me the same thing "cant find anything wrong" "Try this Try that.. Still nothing. Still getting ** upload.

here is a set of upload/download speeds done directly on cox internet speed.. Now keep in mind when you see them, I pay for 5Mbs upload speed. The Download speed is actually higher than what i typically get.

I have a tech coming out again tomorrow.. So lets see where this leads. Question is, Does anyone els have this issue?

Im having the same issue. Cox is killing me. If they can't deliver what we are paying for they should pro-rate.

I have the same problem.  I have had 4 service calls, 3 different techs, have started researching on DSLreports.com and the COX forums and it seems many customers have this problem.  I have not found the magic fix yet.

So, I had a supa come out. Telling me we need to replace the lines in the apartment 'Which my complex doesnt want them to do" So have showing him my evidence, and he then started going on the defense and started telling me about a story about how he had the same issues, and that when he replaced it, it started working again "But that was with comcast, Funny right?"

So He called a guy to do a sweep on the area "Which I assume to make me happy" and continued to point at the lines regardless. His main assumption is that. When they installed my lines they stapled the line and that makes it going crazy.

This is my speedtest just now. Again I pay for 30 UP 5 DOWN. If it was a line issue.. Don't you think it would be lower than what I normally get, and wouldnt the download speed have an issue to" I did mention that to him when he was explaining". The big issue is that high upload will go back down to 0.. in a matter of seconds it keeps doing just that.

I moved into a new place the first week of July and noticed frequent spikes in latency, going from an average of 70ms to spikes around 400ms. I would get the spikes about every minute or so. I called Cox and they had to send a tech out. I showed the tech my information and he "did some work" and "fixed" the problem. After he left, I noticed the problem again and called Cox. I told them the issue and they sent a second tech out. He "did some work" and "fixed" the problem. After he left, I continued having the issue and called Cox a 3rd time. Again, they sent a tech out. I showed him the data, told him that he was the 3rd guy out and I wanted a more detailed report than "did some work". He replaced all of the cables inside and replaced all of the cable heads outside of my house. That actually fixed the problem...

However, when I got the bill, Cox charged me $60 for the 2nd and 3rd trip to my house. The 1st trip was free because it was a problem created from a "new installation", but the 2nd and 3rd trip, even though they were just fixing the 1st trips inability to fix the problem, were still charged to me.

Now, I have internet problems tonight and Cox asks me if I want them to schedule a tech appointment... &$^& you and hang up. That's about all I can say.

Thank you Scott Pickett for setting up a service call with a real Cox employee instead of a contractor.  After 3 visits from End2End with each doing one little piece that did not fix my problem of slow speed, I went to the Cox store and talked to Scott about my frustration - he made sure my next appointment was with a Cox specialist who had experience in all systems.  I have Cox Phone and Internet only.  Scott (from the COX store) also replaced my 1 yr old modem (it had a 2 yr warranty) with a new version and confirmed my appointment with a Cox repair technician.  James discovered that I had an old phone modem that could have been interfering with the internet signal coming into my house. It also could have been the internet modem, but when the End2End technician did a test from the tap with a brand new modem the slow speeds continued, so I figured it was not the internet modem.  James the Cox repair person replaced the phone modem and the internet modem and I have not had throttling down to slow speeds for 3 days now.  I'm a much happier person. Thank you Scott for saving a Cox customer for 8 years.
