Cox speed inconsistent and vastly inferior to DSL near fiber nodes

Just connected the big competitor's phone + 20M down / 5M up DSL service (40% less than Cox "Preferred" - "up to" 18M down / 4M up) in response to horrid Cox customer service experience related to TV & phone service.  Turns out it was a good move - not just financially.

DSL connection tests out consistently around 19.5M down / 4.5M up while Cox is steadily 5M down / 3.5M up... Their listed speeds are basically fraud - you know, the perfect world, on the 5th Tuesday in October in every other leap year...  No wonder they don't provide guidance for typical speeds.

Can't wait until DirecTV install is done next week and I can completely drop Cox (afraid to put in disconnect order for phone+internet... who know what that will do to the cable service (yeah... they hosed me last time when I ADDED phone service).

Not to say that any utility will be a customer service star, but if you have to deal with ** customer service, you might as well get the better connection and save some money, right?
