Cox Email POP3 Server

Why does my Microsoft Outlook get email server connection errors about every 15 minutes or so? This has started up recently, and I cannot find any account configuration/settings issues. I'm using the pop.cox.net incoming mail server with SPA, port 110 (I'm on the Cox network) and SSL (Port 465) on the outgoing smtp server. This configuration has worked without issue for many months. After a while, it returns to normal operation without any user intervention. Getting continuous popups to validate logon information for the Cox email server is annoying to say the least. Outlook is configured to do an automated Send/Receive every minute.

There are 5 other threads about this exact problem.  Forum Moderators asked us to send our information to cox.help@cox.com and let them to look into it.  I did that after having the popups request login information for 3 months (intermittent).  They must have done something because the problem is gone (today i had a very short reappearance of the problem after 12 days of zero problems).  It does seem to be a server problem.

Read back thru some of the other forum questions.  My popup dialog box said "The POP server rejected the password for user ___  Please reenter your password".   Of course, entering my password did not fix the problem   This would last between 1 hour and 6 hours ..... 4-5 days per week.  it did not affect my ability to Send.  Incoming emails were delayed. I could occasionally fix the problem by clicking on Get Mail on my email page (rather than waiting the 1 minute for the automated send/receive).  I could occasionally fix the problem by closing my email program and re-opening it.  But on most days i just had to wait for the dialog box to go away.

I'm not entirely certain the problem yak described is affecting your email issue.  I'd suggest visiting http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=334d7950-31f8-11df-fe42-000000000000 and reviewing your settings to ensure they're correct and see if that helps any.

How about sharing with us the cause of the problem that has affected us for the past 4 months.  Lots of talk about 'looking into it' but no one at Cox has told us the what is causing the problem.
