Contour 9865 - Was happier with Motorola 64xx Unit function
We are new to Contour and would like to know if the issues we have are typical:
- Pause will only pause for 10 - 15 minutes, and will only remember 1 hour. The Motorola would pause for 1 1/2 hours and store a paused program 1 1/2 hours long.
I have read in this forum the reason for the short pause is to save the HDD. I don't believe that is a valid reason. - If we are watching a recorded show and decide we really don't want to continue watching and wish to delete it. We have to change to a channel before it will delete. Makes no sense why the user must cycle all the way through the menu's to delete a program.
- We find a number of recorded programs have the last minute or so missing.
My soapbox:
It seems the folks who defined the program function for this unit did not spend a lot of time considering the end user. My understanding is the Motorola came out much earlier than the Cisco. A company with product savvy would look at the other products on the market and try to improve with their entry. It doesn't seem they succeded here.
I would much rather have my old Motorola back but have 3 tuners and more HDD space.

To answer your last question, it's common for some shows to run over the scheduled end time by seconds. I have shows that I record that sometimes end at 9:00 and 30 seconds. To ensure you record the whole show, you can select to record over the scheduled end time by as little as one minute.
I have some questions regarding your other questions. When you say it's only staying paused for 15 minutes, is this on something you're viewing live, or something that you previously recorded? When trying to delete something you're recording at that moment, do you get an error message or pop up box?

The pause is apx 10 minutes. Then the tv will return to the last watched channel. My last DVR (Scientific Atlanta) was the same.
To delete that recorded show, press the button that is at 5 o'clock around the Pause button ( that delete button is curved and has a square icon on it).
I am also experiencing the "missing last minute" you describe.. I record a show which starts at 9pm and ends at 10pm. I can watch the "record" light turn off at 10pm. When i play back the recording, the last minute of the show is cut off. So i set almost all of my recordings to start one minute late and end one minute late.
The Contour has its quirks but being able to record 6 shows at the same time is fun.
