after consulting online via chat, i had someone come out to diagnose the problem. i wasnt home at the time, but the technician said to change the modem but gave no reasoning behind the recommendation.

after reviewing the event log it seems that this is a issue with the cox stuff. most likely wiring or amplifier. my wife did say that the technician went to check the wiring outside. but wasnt told anything about it.

so now that im pretty sure it isnt any of my equipment. do i have to keep on calling cox to try and get the wiring in my building fixed?

thanks for the reply tiffanyr

i do not see any change in the lights when the connection drops. i thought maybe it just wasnt reacting with the lights.

my set up is router->wireless router->pc. im hardwired to the wireless router. i thought maybe my nic card on the computer was bad, so i checked if there was an update for it and there wasnt. my wireless router has been reset several times.

sorry about the late reply

Hi shunny, try connecting directly to the modem and bypass the router. Unplug the power cord from the router while it is not in use. Once you have the modem connected directly to the computer, restart both the modem and the router. After both devices are reset and you can connect to the internet, re-run a speed test and let us know what the results are. Of course, check all of the coax connection (even at the wall) to make sure they are tight. If you have a splitter on the wire, please let us know.
