I have been with Cox for over 20 years and always have had good technicians come and fix things for me in an efficient way. Not always during the first call but finished on a follow up visit.
Today a got a tech that was more interested in leaving and passing the buck than doing his job. I knew what the issue was from the start and had to guide him to it. For him first it was water damage in the post hub, so the guys on the cherry pickers need to be called. After he change the ends and splitters all my TV but one was working, and the signal strength was terrible, so it had to be the DVR that was broken so we had to change it. Then he advised me that he would be leaving soon without fixing the issue.
Then he asked if I have had Verizon, I had a Verizon run fiber to my house, but because the poor server from the tech that would have connected me I canceled that contract. So now it was the signal booster that Verizon put in. When Verizon didn't touch the setup and the signal booster was put by Cox when the house was new.
So I spelled it out for him, I said "lets think it through":
1-All the sets went off at once, it should not be just one box going bad.
2- you changed all the ends and replaced the splitters.
3-since the house was built (I bought it new) it has long runs of cables and Cox had to add a booster for the signal to reach all rooms.
4-after you changed all splitters and ends, by passed the booster, we get low signal reads in the working boxes, and the one furthest is not working.
5- the only thing missing is for you to change the booster.
He went to his truck, brought a booster and put it on my living room desk, asked me to restart all boxes after disconnecting them, asked me to stay by them and he will call me from outside to verify that it was working. Of course the furthest box was not working. Unlucky me it was already close to 5:00PM, quitting time.
So he came up and told me the it is the water damage on your cables, you need to call an electrician to change them. I said this would mean that I have water damage inside my house that I don't have. Oh! then it may be animals chewing on the cable, they love that.
I asked, did you test the booster you brought? yes, but it didn't make a difference.so a left the current booster installed. I believed.
But when he was leaving, I noticed that he picked the booster he brought from my leaving room desk untouched. He left.
I went back to close the doors, and thought to see the connection. The booster had been left bypassed, so made me reboot all the boxes and wait for his call so I couldn't see has was doing nothing, making it a quick walk away at 5:00PM sharp.
I know this house needs a booster to reach the far rooms since constructed, no "water damage", "squirrel bites" or "old cables". I would understand a misdiagnosis, but out right lying, leaving customer hanging because it got too late? I would have expected this from Verizon. Which I am thinking of reengaging.
By the way, I took the modulator off the DVR and not it is working. I need cox to send an honest technician (not the one I got today), put a new 10Db booster in line so I can reconnect the modulator to my DVR and operate within recommended specs. I will call during business hours to see if Cox cares.

Chichizola, I apologize about the technician not resolving your issues. Please send an email to Cox.Help@Cox.com with your home address and we can setup a service call for you(if you haven't already). Also include a link to this thread so we know who you are.
