Cisco Whole Home DVR losing its audio setting

Am using the Cisco Whole Home DVR system. The Master unit keeps losing its Digital Output setting. It reverts to Pulse Code Modulated from the Dolby Digital(AC3) setting used by my Bose stereo unit. It seems to lose it overnight. Anyone have any ideas what can be done to solve this?

Also, when the system first comes on, it says 2D when it starts up. This started happening at about the same time as the previously mentioned problem.

Thanks for any help.

Additional information:

Did a reboot on the cable box; no change. This is getting a bit frustrating.

What type of conneciton are you using.  I am going to make the wild leap and guess HDMI, But you could also be using optical audio.  I have seen HDMI connections try to communicate with the devices they are hooked to and try to select the optimal settings that the second device likes to use.  You may want to check the Bose unit to see if it has a way to force it to use digital input from the HD box only.  Hope this helps.

Some more additional information...

Had Cox do a "soft reset" of the box. The next morning the same thing happened. Was told that if this did not fix it, there would have to be a truck roll. Of course, if the box is replaced, I will lose my currently recorded programs.

I then connected the box through the Sony TV set to see if the Bose was too old to work properly with the Cox box. Next morning, same problem again.

Up until now have been very satisfied with Cox's service; but this, along with the phone and internet outage a week or so ago, are causing me to rethink the use of ATT for phone and internet.

Anyone have any other ideas?

If my first steps did not work and now you are having the same issue with out the Bose system, while I would hate to say it as I would hate to lose my recordings, but it sounds like a swap of the box may be needed.  however, before you do that You may also want to swap your HDMI cable as well in case there is a short in it as well that would save your recordings.  I would make sure not to use any of the HDMI cables you have been using to connect the Bose and TV up to this point.  In a best case I would use an HDMI cable from another TV that has been working with no issue.

That my be think that you could also try another tv set in your house as well.  This is unlikely to help since you have tired the Bose and the Sony TV but anything to save those recordings.

Don't swap out the box!  Insist that Cox fix the firmware bug that appeared after the latest firmware upgrade.  I am experiencing the exact same issue with the WHDVR on my Sony receiver.  Swapping out the box will get you nowhere.

I starting seeing the same issue around the same time.  If I leave the cable box on and switch the tv off, then it holds the setting.  If I switch the cable box off and the tv is on when I switch it back on, it resets it to PCM from AC3, even though I want the sound to go through optical to my AC3 receiver.

Getting used to leaving the cable box on permanently as a workaround for now.

Yep.  That happens with my setup as well.  It's definitely a firmware bug.  I've had no luck getting anyone from Cox to acknowledge it or give me any idea whom to contact to fix it.

I got the same issue on the test box in the office.  I will pass this along to our engineers as well to see what can be done.  Also I have a different work around for you so you don't have to leave the equipment on.   If you power the system down in this order. Box then the TV.  Then power it back up in this order.  TV then the box. Also give it a few seconds on the power up side before you turn the box back on.  It looks like not having an active outputs causes this.

Hi Mike007!

Yes, the workaround seems to work here. Now to get my better half to turn the set off properly.

Any timeline on the patch to correct this problem?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry I cant help with the better half. I cant even help mine get it right and I do this for a living.

I have no firm info on how long it will take.  We are about a push a patch in the next few months and I know it will not be on that one.  We will do a patch every 3-6 months depending on what features and fixes we are adding. So it is still a little ways off.

I just received my Cisco Whole Home DVR today.  I am having the same issue as everyone else.  It seems the only workaround is following the correct sequence in powering on and off.  I note there hasn't been any recent activity on this thread so I just wanted to ensure that a solution does not exist at this juncture.  Tech support told me tonight to return the DVR for another one, but that obviously would not accomplish anything.  Thanks for any follow ups on this issue

Are you in Rhode Island?  if so I was told there will be a firmware update within the next week that will fix this problem.

I live in San Diego, have the newest firmware (pushed a couple of weeks ago), and do NOT have the problem. Of course, I can't say for sure if I had the problem BEFORE the upgrade.

Latest firmware:

OHT 3.0.0.1601

App Launcher 1.9.4

OS 1.1.18.1

Axiom 3.0.16.1
