CISCO 8642 HDC will not control volume with HDMI - FACT
The cisco 8642hdc has no way to control volume with hdmi installed through the box........except to go into settings and changed to variable every time you turn the box on....and then it doesnt give you a display bar on screen.......also new versions dont have a 110 volt outlet................There is a previous thread locked from 2 years ago where cox says they are working on it. These new boxes are junk..........3 trips to the cox store and Im going back again. Guys there are nice but dont know anything about their equipment or do and play dumb. Get this fixed or get a box that works!

Since I started using digital audio, toslink or hdmi, I've never used a STB to control audio. I use the receiving device, either an audio/video receiver in my main setup or the TV itself, to control volume. It's a digital signal on the hdmi cable, volume is basically an analog function. I let the AVR decode the digital codec then apply volume control on output. I don't think what you are seeing is anything new with the 8642hdc.
Can't speak to the AC outlet, I have a DVR which uses an external power supply, hence no 110 outlet.

Nice you have a vintage McIntosh stereo, which must have stereo analog inputs. How are you getting from hdmi to analog for input to the Mc? Are you using the stereo output of the 8642? You seam to be omitting things in your post.
